Marcus Dupree was born on May 22, 1964, in Philadelphia, Mississippi. He attended Philadelphia High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. Dupree set a new national high school record for touchdowns with 87 during his high school career.
Career
Dupree’s collegiate career began at the University of Oklahoma in 1982. He made an immediate impact, scoring his first college touchdown in a game against Texas. Dupree had numerous impressive performances, including a 75-yard touchdown run and a Fiesta Bowl record of 249 rushing yards. However, his sophomore season was marred by weight gain and behavioral issues, leading him to transfer to the University of Southern Mississippi.
In 1984, Dupree signed with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL. Though his season did not live up to its initial promise, he recorded nine touchdowns and had a pair of 100-yard rushing games. In 1985, Dupree suffered a major knee injury and had to be carried off the field, marking the end of his USFL career.
After a hiatus from football, Dupree returned to play for the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL. He had some notable performances but was hampered by injuries. Ultimately, Dupree was released from the team and retired from the NFL.
