The Mann-Whitney U value, also known as the Mann-Whitney U statistic, is a non-parametric test used to determine if there is a significant difference between two independent groups. It is often referred to as the Wilcoxon rank-sum test or the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test. <\/p>\n

The Mann-Whitney U value is calculated by ranking all the data points from both groups together and then summing the ranks for each group separately. The U value represents the rank sum of one group (usually the smaller or control group) and can range from 0 to the total number of observations in that group. <\/p>\n

The Mann-Whitney U value alone, however, does not indicate whether there is a significant difference between the two groups. It needs to be compared to a critical value from the Mann-Whitney U distribution or assessed against a p-value to determine the statistical significance.<\/p>\n
