When it comes to evaluating an investment in a mutual fund or exchange-traded fund (ETF), two key metrics that investors often look at are the net asset value (NAV) and the price per share. Both of these metrics can provide valuable insights into the underlying value of an investment, but they are not the same thing.<\/p>\n

**Net asset value (NAV) is not the same as price per share.** While price per share refers to the current market price at which a security is trading, net asset value represents the total value of a fund’s assets minus its liabilities, divided by the number of outstanding shares. In other words, net asset value is an indication of the intrinsic value of a fund, while price per share is determined by market forces such as supply and demand.<\/p>\n
