The x-value of a graph is not the dependent variable. In fact, the x-value is typically the independent variable in a graph. The dependent variable, on the other hand, is usually represented by the y-value.<\/p>\n

When looking at a graph, the x-value is the variable that is manipulated or controlled by the experimenter. It is the input variable that is changed in order to observe how it affects the dependent variable, which is represented by the y-value. In other words, the y-value depends on the x-value, hence the term “dependent variable”.<\/p>\n
