In Peru, the official currency is the Peruvian Nuevo Sol, which is abbreviated as PEN. The Nuevo Sol replaced the Peruvian Inti at a rate of 1 million Intis to 1 Nuevo Sol in 1991, due to hyperinflation that rendered the Inti practically worthless. Since then, the Nuevo Sol has been the main form of money used for transactions in Peru.<\/p>\n

Peru has a monetary system based on decimal currency, where 1 Nuevo Sol is divided into 100 centimos. Coins are issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, and 50 centimos, as well as 1, 2, and 5 Nuevo Soles. Banknotes come in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 Nuevo Soles, each featuring different Peruvian historical figures and landmarks.<\/p>\n
