John David McAfee was born on September 18, 1945, in Cinderford, England, on a United States Army Base. He was raised in Salem, Virginia, in the United States. McAfee attended college at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, and graduated in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He later received an honorary Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree from the same college in 2008.
Career
After graduating from college, McAfee worked at NASA’s Institute for Space Studies from 1968 to 1970. He then moved on to work as a software designer at Univac and later at Xerox. In 1978, McAfee joined the Computer Sciences Corporation as a software consultant. He later worked for the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton.
